Mattul, located north west part of Kannur near payangadi . The village is bounded by natural beauty. The Kuppam River flosses by the eastern border of mattul and joins the Valapattanam River at Mattul Azheekal and drains into Arabian Sea. Mattul has a good road network that connects through payangadi to all parts of Kannur District.

The village covers an area of 12.82Sq KM. According to the 1991 census it had a population of 26,355 of which 14,105 were females and 12,250 males.
